Galway City Roller Derby Open Day, Sunday August 27th, Dr Mannix Road, Salthill.

Galway City Roller Derby Open Day is taking place this Sunday, August the 27th in the Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA on Dr Mannix Road, Salthill. This is will be a free fun event where anyone over 18 years of age  can come to try on skates and gear, to see if they would be interested in learning to skate and play roller derby. Skates and gear provided. Mouthguard’s required but some will be available to buy on the day if needed. NO previous experience required. Times: 5-7pm in The Aras GAA hall, Dr. Mannix Rd, Salthill. Requiem for an Irish mother

One night last week, I tried to figure out how many matches my mother saw me play as a child. I know it was less than ten. It may even have been fewer than five. There were a couple of street league finals I forced her to turn up to. There was definitely a county juvenile hurling final with St. Finbarr’s where I was, rather embarrassingly, called ashore 20 minutes into the first half (“It just wasn’t your day, love”). There was also an FAI Youths Cup semi-final defeat with Casement Celtic at a drenched Turners Cross (“How did they expect ye to play in that?”)…

5 to 6 morning at Black Rock before Frances Thornton Memorial

06:54:54 am Saturday 25th July 2015. The best possible weather conditions for a daily swim at Galway’s Black Rock. At around 11:30 am 80 swimmers will arrive at the same location after a swim from Clare 13 kilometres across Galway Bay.
