Hallorans in Oughterard have opened the Spring 2017 season with 7 Course Menu tasting Evening Thursday 23rd February. The Restaurant and Cafe business replaced Murphy’s in the premises in the centre of Oughterard. In 2016 the place reopens as Hallorans with new owner Xin Sun, the Chinese restauranteur with 9 years experience as head chef in 4 star luxury Ballinahinch Castle. GALWAY CITY MUSEUM Saturday, 22 October, 2pm – 4pm TALK & READINGS: Revolutionary Poetry. The 1916 Rising is often referred to as a ‘poet’s revolution’. Taking this as her starting point, poet Emily Cullen PhD, will introduce the work of international poets of revolution – historic and contemporary – including Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam and Rafeef Ziadah. After that Galway-based Albanian poet Ndrek Gjini MA, who lived through the oppressive Enver Hoxha regime in the 1980s, will talk about Communism in the Balkans in the middle of the 20th Century and will discuss the work of Visar Zhiti and Vaclav Havel.
