GALWAY CITY MUSEUM Saturday, 22 October, 2pm – 4pm TALK & READINGS: Revolutionary Poetry. The 1916 Rising is often referred to as a ‘poet’s revolution’. Taking this as her starting point, poet Emily Cullen PhD, will introduce the work of international poets of revolution – historic and contemporary – including Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam and Rafeef Ziadah. After that Galway-based Albanian poet Ndrek Gjini MA, who lived through the oppressive Enver Hoxha regime in the 1980s, will talk about Communism in the Balkans in the middle of the 20th Century and will discuss the work of Visar Zhiti and Vaclav Havel. He also will read from his work. All Are Welcome!

The winners of this year’s Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh will be announced by Minister of State Joe McHugh at a special awards ceremony tomorrow evening, Thursday 12 May, at 6.30pm in the Westwood Hotel. Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, Galway’s Bilingual business award, is organised by Gaillimh le Gaeilge with support from Galway Chamber. The Gradam both recognises and rewards businesses and organisations in Galway that use and promote the Irish language in the city.
