MADRA’s new mascot was unveiled to the public this week on the Salthill prom, in time for their 2018 ‘Paws on the Prom’ Dogathon, which takes place on Sunday, May 27th at 1pm.
The event begins at the Claddagh and all money raised will go to the Connemara-based dog rescue and adoption charity.
The mascot, who has yet to be named, will lead the way on Sunday, taking over 1,000 paws along the prom to Blackrock.
MADRA General Manager, Jonathan Kent, is hoping for a record breaking year, in what is their biggest fundraising initiative of 2018.
Last year, the charity rescued 789 neglected and abandoned dogs from counties Galway and Mayo. Running costs are now at approximately €370,000 per year.
All money raised at the Dogathon event goes directly to supporting the canines in their care.
“There has been a great reaction to our new mascot!” explains MADRA General Manager, Jonathan Kent.
“We hope the, as yet unnamed, mascot will encourage families to join us on Sunday for what will be a great day out. The Dogathon is so important to MADRA. The event helps us to raise the much needed funds to keep our services going.
“The money raised allows us to rescue and rehome as many dogs as we can. It’s also a great chance for the people who support MADRA – whether they be volunteers, donors, adopters, or those interested in our work – to come together and show their support for the charity.
“Last year was such a great day. There was a really positive vibe and attitude from everyone that I met. I was overwhelmed to see all of the dogs on the day, all breeds big and small. It’s just a wonderful sight for any dog lover.
